Isabel Lucas: Australian Harper’s Bazaar March

•February 4, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I started noticing Australian actress Isabel Lucas in 2009 when she signed on to do Transformers II and immediately pegged her as Hollywood’s newest it girl. Then rumors swirled around that Karl Lagerfeld had taken her under his fashion wing of guidance. When he extended an invitation for her to attend his haute couture fashion show, the fashion world was naturally abuzz at her potential. Her red carpet style was received mildly, to put it nicely, but was something real and fresh that only people with a new set of eyes could understand. That, along with her natural beauty and the ability to pull of anything, gave her a particular edge. Although the expected route was for her to fall under young Hollywood’s female stereotype, which we all know too well, Isabel surprised pretty much all of us. Instead Isabel spends her time in eco-friendly t-shirts and comfy loafers. She prefers to be hands on with the various causes she’s a part of as opposed to on the red carpet. She admirably uses her star power to bring light to causes she appears to truly care about. The most recent cause being the ‘Summit on the Summit’ climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro campaign to help bring attention to the dire water crisis. And then funnily enough you put the girl in a magazine, like Harper’s did in their March issue, and she will pose. Ridiculously well. It’s clear that Lucas has a good soul and is on the steady path to success and that’s why she is worthy of our attention.

Very few ad campaigns leave me in awe and make me do a triple take quite like the team working at Alexander McQueen managed to accomplish. For S/S 2010 McQueen opted to make quite the memorable stunt by burying model Raquel Zimmermann casually under a multitude of colorful snakes that matched her bodysuit. The result was genius. All I hope for now is a behind the scenes clip on youtube to complete me.

Chanel Haute Couture S/S 2010

Karl Lagerfeld knows that bangs need cheekbones and vice versa as Snejana so perfectly illustrates in the above photo. The designer debuted the Chanel haute couture collection in Paris yesterday and didn’t disappoint unlike other haute couture counterparts earlier this week.
If there were a time warp that meshed the 1960’s with 2030, this is what people would wear. The collection was made after the designer saw it in a dream, which certainly explains the otherworldly quality of the clothes. It was made entirely in pale neutral tones of yellow, coral, cream, tan, silver and baby blue, which Lagerfeld a famous fan of black says was challenging. The hair was big, the clothes ethereal and the models flawless. Models who were styled similar to Grecian goddesses flowed down the runway with streaks of what appeared to be pale blue highlights twisted in an elaborate up do that only inventive pop artists can consider. The hair was made more Chanel by the equally elaborate bow that rested boldly on each head. The models donned everything from Oscar worthy dresses, to classic Chanel suits, to head-to-toe metallic business attire for the one male model that interposed his way onto the runway. Intricate touches like delicate embroidery and shimmery satin worked faultlessly with the color palette. Metallic space footwear made for an interesting addition to a truly fresh collection.

VIP’s seated included newly ex-TV presenter Alexa Chung, Anna Mouglalis, a pregnant Claudia Schiffer, Kanye West, his ever present Amber Rose and Charlotte Gainsbourg. So, what did we get out of this collection besides lust? That haute couture is far from dead.

With the coming of spring and the need for color in our wardrobe, pale yellow has reestablished itself on the runways making quite the comeback. To show that yellow can in fact be chic..

I am most definitely supremely bias towards my ultimate wardrobe staple, cardigans, for their practicality and versatility. They can be worn slouchy, fitted, cropped, shrugged over dresses or over jeans, even as maternity wear and can make any wearer look put together and trim. The best part is, they’re so basic one can really go to town when choosing a color, pattern, style, fabric or design. I currently have a little over a dozen in varying different colors but I feel I have too few!

Although they were reintroduced in stores a few seasons ago, in a lot of high street stores there will be tables specifically reserved for a color wheel of cardigans. Also, long cardigans, which only recently made their debut, can be so helpful for the motahajiba abroad without appearing frumpy. Depending on the fabric this major staple can be worn in any region of the world. I just picked up a lovely shade of purple and another in sunshine yellow from Zara. They are even selling vintage cardigans online! Currently I like to dress mine up by unbuttoning the front completely and just add a belt over the middle section, a look that some fashionistas’ are wearing and must be capitalized on before everyone else does. On the whole, cardigans have longevity and can wondrously mold to fit every style. The have been done quite well by a diversity of people including toddlers, working women, stylish men, hipsters, grandpas, Mr. Rogers.. I mean, if Mr. Rogers has worked it then it has to be done, am I right?

Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2010 RTW - style.com

I’m finding that as I slowly build make-up expertise and after finally mastering the art of applying retro inspired eye makeup, I have the compulsive urge to instead leave that part of the face bare. As I try to be modest, I prefer as little make-up as possible but not applying much on the eye can cause for a very washed out appearance. Instead I concentrate on fresh and exotic lip colors, which with bare eyes actually makes lips flatteringly large and eyes youthful and soft. My staple is and will always be sultry red lipstick because it suits my personality and skin tone to a tee. When I’m bored I change it up to fuchsia, vivid plum or simply use a bronze colored lip balm, never lip-gloss. I find lip-gloss to be messy and can look a bit dated at times. When leaving the eyes bare and concentrating on the lips it is essential to balance the face properly by pronouncing the eyebrows as well. Some people prefer to draw them in but personally I find it’s too much work in the mornings so I dye them at salons instead. The result is inconspicuous and flawless. By simply changing up the color of the lip this makeup look is perfect for many an occasion.

London

I know it’s been quite a while since my last update and I am deeply sorry. The reason being, I was in London on vacation for my Eid break and I didn’t have Internet nor the time. I promise there will be regular updates starting from today.
